31/01/2005 Followed the Coast to Coast Walkway from Auckland to by the old Mangere Bridge and then followed roads through Mangere, Old Papatoetoe and on to Manakau City. The Coast to Coast Walkway is only 16km long but took me ages as it passes so many interesting spots. Whoever designed both the walk and the documentation did an incredible job and I would recommend this walk to anyone. This huge lily was in the tropical house in the gardens of Auckland Domain. This house was home to two families and straddled the boundary of their one acre properties, hence the name Fencibles. One of a series of ten forts built to protect the young city of Auckland from attack by Maori warriors.
